Preview: Ellicott Thunderhawks vs. La Junta Tigers
Ellicott has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the La Junta Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Ellicott suffered their biggest defeat since December 5, 2023 on Tuesday. They were dealt a 71-30 defeat at the hands of Banning Lewis Academy. Ellicott was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-10.
Meanwhile, La Junta's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a 43-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Buena Vista. While losing is never fun, La Junta can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 270th, while Buena Vista is ranked 111th).
Ellicott's loss was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-13. As for La Junta, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-11.
Ellicott came up short against La Junta in their previous matchup on January 5th, falling 32-26. Can Ellicott avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
