Softball Recap: San Fernando Comes Up Short

San Fernando extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 7-12 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Chavez Eagles. The Tigers were not able to make up for their loss to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

As for Chavez, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games.

For Chavez's part, Gabby Duran spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on 12 hits. Duran has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alyssa Anaya, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Jordan Billingsley was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Coming up, San Fernando will face off against La Canada at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Chavez, they will head out on the road to take on Birmingham at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Patriots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.67 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
