Softball Recap: Spooner Triumphs

Spooner is still undefeated this season after their matchup against Cumberland on Tuesday, but Cumberland came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Rails came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 8-7 W against the Beavers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 13-6 back in April.

Devin Danielsen made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, Ava Thompson and Annalie Lindgren did most of the damage at the plate: Thompson went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles, while Lindgren got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Thompson is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Layla Thompson was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three stolen bases and two runs.

Spooner kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in five consecutive games.

Spooner's record is now 9-0. As for Cumberland, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Spooner will face off against Northwestern at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cumberland, they will square off against Ashland at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
