Basketball Game Preview: Tivy Antlers vs. New Braunfels Unicorns

The Tivy Antlers will head out to challenge the New Braunfels Unicorns at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Last Tuesday, Tivy took a blow against Pieper, falling 52-24. The defeat continues a trend for the Antlers in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now lost four in a row.

Meanwhile, New Braunfels was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Wagner and fell 81-38. While losing is never fun, the Unicorns can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 279th, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 12th).

Tivy will have to contain Ryler Wilson as she made an impact in New Braunfels' last game. She almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 rebounds. Wilson is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Penelope Ruiz, who posted four points.

Tivy's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-10. As for New Braunfels, their loss dropped their record down to 15-15.

Tivy didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against New Braunfels when the teams last played back in December of 2024, but they still walked away with a 49-43 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Tivy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
