Baseball Game Preview: South Salem Saxons vs. South Medford Panthers

The South Salem Saxons are taking a road trip to take on the South Medford Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Salem will come into the match with an undefeated record on the line.

While South Salem's win against Grants Pass wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Saxons had just enough and edged out the Cavemen 4-3.

The team relied heavily on Sawyer Nelson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Teagan Scott, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, South Medford came up short against West Salem on Tuesday and fell 4-1.

South Medford saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tristan Mallari, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

South Medford's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-12. As for South Salem, they pushed their record up to 26-0 with the victory, which was their 13th straight at home.

Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. South Salem has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.4 hits per game. However, it's not like South Medford struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

South Salem was able to grind out a solid win over South Medford in their previous matchup back in March of 2019, winning 5-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Saxons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
