Basketball Recap: Jersey Comes Up Short

Jersey lost against Pinckneyville back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Jersey Panthers had to suffer through a 70-38 loss at the hands of the Pinckneyville Panthers. While losing is never fun, Jersey can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 463rd, while Pinckneyville is ranked 51st).

When it comes to explaining why Jersey lost, don't look at John Paul Vogel. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards.

Jersey has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season. As for Pinckneyville, their win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1.

Jersey wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 60-51 victory against Richland County on the 28th. Pinckneyville and Benton will round out the year against one another at at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Benton will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something Pinckneyville surely won't give up without a fight.
