Lafayette had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against the Smithfield Packers by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday. The game was the first time the Rams have beaten the Packers on their court since October 17, 2019.

Lafayette had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 25-27, 25-23, 25-23, 26-23.

Lynley Cannon paced Lafayette's offense, picking up 12 kills. Cannon got some help from Laurel Bray and her 32 assists. Cheyenne Reagan (Ray-Gan) and Kylah Matthews kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with five aces apiece.

Lafayette has already played their next match, a 3-1 victory against Warhill on the 28th. As for Smithfield, they will take on Bruton at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
