Baseball Recap: Hull Comes Up Short

Hull extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping them down to 4-7. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cohasset Skippers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Skippers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in April.

As for Cohasset, the victory snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 5-9 record. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted against Hull since May 19, 2021.

For Cohasset's part, Kevin Sweet made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Sweet was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one double.

In other pitching news, Andrew Hanssens looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Cohasset's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 2-1 (and 3-8 when he doesn't).

Sweet wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Connor Thornton, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Coming up, Hull will venture away from home to square off against Southeastern RVT at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Cohasset, they will host Martha's Vineyard Regional at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
