High Desert recap Oct. 9, 2012
Rosamond moved up to 846 from 893 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in High Desert. The Roadrunners climbed the ranks as a result of a 42-33 win over the Roadrunners.
Kern Valley was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in the league. Earlier in the week, the Broncs triumphed over Frazier Mountain 26-14.
Desert's dynamic duo of Matthew Moore and Kyle Hall proved tough for Bishop to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Moore threw for 140 yards and one touchdown and Hall had 57 yards receiving. Chad Gleason helped Desert's passing attack out by catching six balls for 35 yards.
Hall made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Scorpions fell to the Broncos. The senior grabbed 1.0 sack.
Robert Maldonado was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 156 yards as California City fell to Bishop. Teammate Armando Uribe added to the ground attack by rushing for 133 yards.
On the ground, the Ravens' Maldonado has rushed for 635 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Antonio Day. The California City star has 23 catches for 418 yards.
Next week's game between Chris Hinton's team and the Falcons will feature a tantalizing aerial matchup as Moore tests his arm against Colton Knight's defensive ability. Desert's Moore has thrown for 954 yards and 11 touchdowns this year, while Knight has racked up two interceptions for Frazier Mountain.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Rosamond takes on Kern Valley. John Taylor's team is in fourth place, while Ben Goffinet's team is in first place.
There should be lots of points scored when Bill Egan's team and California City face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Broncos comes in having scored 170 this season, while Daniel Williford's team has scored 165. Bishop scored 47 points last week as it bested Desert.
The Broncos led the league in scoring this week after putting up 47 points on the Scorpions.
