Basketball Recap: Northside - Jacksonville Takes a Loss

Northside - Jacksonville lost against Jacksonville back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Northside - Jacksonville Monarchs had to suffer through a 71-13 loss at the hands of the Jacksonville Cardinals. While losing is never fun, the Monarchs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 317th, while the Cardinals are ranked 90th).

Sa'Niyah Serrano was Northside - Jacksonville's leading scorer, having posted five points. Serrano also led the team in assists with two. Anyla Prass held things down on the boards with 11 rebounds.

Kelize Velez-Galan continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Jacksonville, putting up 26 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven steals. The contest was Velez-Galan's third in a row with at least 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Destini Benton, who went 5-for-8 on her way to 13 points and four steals.

Northside - Jacksonville dropped their record down to 7-10 with the loss, which was their 20th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Jacksonville, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 16 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Northside - Jacksonville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Jacksonville, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 70-44 win against J.H. Rose on the 17th.
