Softball Recap: Willcox Extends Winning Streak to Six

Willcox had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 21-5 margin over the St. Augustine Catholic Wolves. The Cowboys might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

Alyssa Gonzalez made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had over her last 11 contests.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nataly Thompson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma McWilliams, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Willcox kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. They are 9-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Willcox pushed their record up to 13-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for St. Augustine Catholic, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.

Willcox will take on Mica Mountain at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Augustine Catholic, they will head out on the road to take on Catalina at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Wolves are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
