Football Recap: Garber Takes a Loss

After soaring to 48 points the game before, Garber was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They were beaten by the Cherokee Chiefs 58-12. The Wolverines were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 52-12.

Garber lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Nic Najera, who picked up 94 receiving yards and one touchdown. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 85 yards.

A big part of Cherokee's victory came down to the chemistry between Trig Ream and his top target Dawson Schanbacher. Ream gained 166 total yards and four touchdowns while Schanbacher rushed for 115 yards and one TD on only seven carries. The dominant performance also gave Schanbacher a new career-high in passing yards (90).

Having lost for the first time this season, Garber fell to 2-1. As for Cherokee, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Garber wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 28-22 victory against Depew on the 19th. As for Cherokee, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 24-16 win against Shattuck on the 26th.
