Softball Game Preview: Center Point Pirates vs. Harper Longhorns

Center Point hasn't had much luck against Harper recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Center Point Pirates will host the Harper Longhorns at 5:00 p.m. Center Point has given up an average of 11.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Center Point had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Harper put an end to it on Tuesday. Center Point came up short against Harper, falling 19-2.

For Harper's part, Kinsey Key made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). That's the fewest hits Key has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Lizzie Canning was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Taelynn Tatsch was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Harper was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .643. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Center Point only posted a batting average of .125.

Harper's victory bumped their record up to 3-6-1. As for Center Point, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.

Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Center Point hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .513. However, it's not like Harper struggles in that department as they've averaged .357. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
