Basketball Recap: Foard Comes Up Short

Foard was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a 67-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Statesville Greyhounds. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 614th, while the Greyhounds are ranked 218th).

When it comes to explaining why Foard lost, don't look at Malachi Mcknight. Despite the final result, he went 10 of 16 on his way to 27 points and seven rebounds. Mcknight is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Holden Caldwell, who posted ten points.

Even though they lost, Foard smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. This was only their eighth loss (out of nine games) when they hit their own glass that hard.

Statesville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ameiyon Jehahj Sherrill led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. Manuel (MJ) Gladden was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten boards.

Foard's defeat dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Statesville, the win got them back to even at 6-6.

Foard will take on East Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. East Lincoln will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Foard surely won't give up without a fight. As for Statesville, they will challenge West Iredell at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Statesville knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten matchups -- so hopefully West Iredell likes a good challenge.
