Given Owego Free Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Chenango Forks is ranked 359th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
When it comes to explaining why Chenango Forks lost, one person who can't be blamed is Stephen Samsel. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 21 points and 15 rebounds. That was a full 40.4% of Chenango Forks' points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Ethan Vaseleck was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two blocks.
Even though they lost, Chenango Forks smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Owego Free Academy's win bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Chenango Forks, their loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 4-6.
Owego Free Academy will take on Waverly at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Waverly knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven contests -- so hopefully Owego Free Academy likes a good challenge. As for Chenango Forks, they will head out on the road to take on Chenango Valley at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Chenango Valley is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
