Recap: Alva Goldbugs vs. Perry Maroons
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Oklahoma Christian, The Alva Goldbugs were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They skirted past Perry 23-20. For Alva, this counts as revenge for the 13-12 defeat Perry walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2022.
Lantz Mathers had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.8 yards per carry. Mathers was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 52 yards.
Perry's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Andrew Kukuk, who rushed for 128 yards. Another player making a difference was Whelan Carson, who picked up 122 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Alva's victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 5-5. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.7 points per game. As for Perry, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
Alva will head out on the road to face off against Chandler at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. Perry does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
