Softball Recap: Bourgade Catholic Extends Home Winning Streak to Nine

Bourgade Catholic had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Payson Longhorns. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Golden Eagles have posted since April 27, 2024.

Olivia Durazo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Samantha Santillan, who scored two runs while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Esther Quezada, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Bourgade Catholic's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Payson, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-9.
