Softball Recap: Fern Creek Gets the Win

Fern Creek posted their closest win since March 30, 2024 on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past the Western Hills Wolverines 2-1. This was payback for the Tigers, who suffered a 5-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Skylar Brown spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on eight hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Fern Creek saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Karley Hess, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave Hess a new career-high.

Fern Creek's record is now 7-12. As for Western Hills, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-15.

Looking ahead, Fern Creek will venture away from home to face off against Christian Academy-Louisville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers are facing the Centurions at the right time seeing as the Centurions are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Western Hills, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Franklin County at 6:00 p.m. The Wolverines' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Flyers have averaged an impressive 11.1 runs per game this season.
