Softball Game Preview: Owosso Trojans vs. Durand Railroaders

The Owosso Trojans will take on the Durand Railroaders at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Owosso's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Durand has been banged up by eight consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

Owosso's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Brandon. The win continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Blackhawks: they've now won seven in a row.

Hailie Caswell tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Kylee Nesbit was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Nesbit is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Audri Hrncharik was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Owosso was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Durand's offense. They lost 15-0 to Lakeville on Monday. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Railroaders' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Durand now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Owosso, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.

Everything went Owosso's way against Durand when the teams last played back in April of 2019, as Owosso made off with an 11-4 win. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Railroaders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
