Basketball Preview: Wichita County Indians vs. Dighton Hornets
Wichita County is 1-8 against the Hornets since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Wichita County Indians will look to defend their home court against the Dighton Hornets at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, Wichita County made easy work of the Jackrabbits and carried off a 67-47 victory.
Wichita County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Christopher Michel, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Harbin, who scored 21 points along with six steals and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Dighton stacked an 11th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They claimed a resounding 70-42 win over Ingalls at home. Given Dighton's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 260th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wichita County's victory bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Dighton, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-1.
Wichita County came up short against the Hornets in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 59-54. Thankfully for Wichita County, Max Neeley (who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
