Basketball Recap: Middle Park Skates Past Battle Mountain with Ease

Middle Park waltzed into their match on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They took their game with ease, bagging a 74-43 win over the Battle Mountain Huskies. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 25 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Joey Gagnon, who posted 24 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Luke Paugh was another key player, going 6 of 15 on his way to 13 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals.

Gagnon wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Middle Park was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

When it comes to explaining why Battle Mountain lost, don't look at Blake Roberts. Despite the final result, he put up 11 points along with five boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakob Methvin, who had ten points and three steals.

Middle Park has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.2 points per game. As for Battle Mountain, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Middle Park and Steamboat Springs will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. One thing working in Middle Park's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games. As for Battle Mountain, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Evergreen at 3:00 p.m. on January 11, 2025.
