Baseball Recap: Highland Tech Has No Trouble Against Shelby

Highland Tech won the last time they faced Shelby and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Highland Tech Rams blew past the Shelby Golden Lions 12-4. Considering the Rams have won four contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Coleman Schafer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-5.

In other batting news, Jackson Bradley was excellent, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Cooper Hartis also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Highland Tech always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .535. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Highland Tech's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 4-5. As for Shelby, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Looking ahead, Highland Tech will take on Shelby at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Shelby has given up an average of 10.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for they, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 11-3 defeat against Freedom on the 19th.
