Basketball Recap: Portage Takes a Loss

Portage suffered their closest loss since February 1, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Westfield Area Pioneers by a score of 67-64. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pioneers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Portage still got an impressive performance from Aidan Warfield, who went 8-for-17 on his way to 22 points and seven boards. Those 22 points gave Warfield a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Michael Nachreiner, who went 6-for-13 en route to 12 points.

Portage has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 13 matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 2-17 record this season. As for Westfield Area, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Portage will venture away from home to face off against Reedsburg at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Westfield Area, they will head out to take on Amherst at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
