Preview: Middleton Tigers vs. Berkeley Prep Buccaneers
Middleton is 0-4 against Berkeley Prep since August of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Middleton Tigers will look to defend their home field against the Berkeley Prep Buccaneers at 7:30 p.m. Middleton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 417th, while Berkeley Prep is ranked 40th).
After a string of three wins, Middleton's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were outmatched by Sumner at home and fell 50-17. Middleton has not had much luck with Sumner recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Andre Coston, who rushed for 52 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Berkeley Prep put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 42-7 victory over Bolles. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-0.
Dallas Golden and Joseph Troupe were among the main playmakers for Berkeley Prep as the former rushed for 150 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries and the latter rushed for 92 yards and three touchdowns. Golden was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 67 yards. Luby Jones jr was in the mix too, providing Berkeley Prep with two touchdowns.
Middleton's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Berkeley Prep, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Middleton took a serious blow against Berkeley Prep in their previous meeting back in November of 2019, falling 37-6. Thankfully for Middleton, Xavier Townsend (who gained 83 total yards and three touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
