Softball Recap: Eastern Comets vs. Carroll Cougars

Eastern had lost ten straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 3-20 to make it 11. They lost 11-4 to the Carroll Cougars. The Comets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Marly Coan was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

As for Carroll, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-6. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won nine contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Carroll's side, Charlotte Kingery was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. Kingery has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bree Hoke, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Alexis Yeakley also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Eastern wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, an 11-8 defeat against Peru on the 17th. Carroll does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
