Basketball Recap: Layla Hunter Key Part of a Team Effort in Wildcats Win

Carolina Day meant business on Wednesday, getting buckets from all over the court against a Eagles squad that has allowed just 29.56 points per contest. The Carolina Day Wildcats put the hurt on the Pinnacle Classical Academy Eagles with a sharp 64-41 victory. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-20.

Carolina Day's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Layla Hunter, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten boards. Hunter has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Keana Smith, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 boards.

Carolina Day was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pinnacle Classical Academy only racked up nine assists.

Pinnacle Classical Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Emily Chichas, who posted six points in addition to seven boards and four steals. Another player making a difference was Clarissa Christopher, who put up three points and three steals.

Carolina Day pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points per game. As for Pinnacle Classical Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-4.

Carolina Day didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-44 victory against Spartanburg Day on the 9th. As for Pinnacle Classical Academy, they will host Piedmont Community Charter at 4:00 p.m. on January 16th.
