Preview: Wilby Wildcats vs. Woodland Regional Hawks

After three games on the road, Wilby is heading back home. They will take on the Woodland Regional Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wilby knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 16 matches -- so hopefully Woodland Regional likes a good challenge.

In what's become a running theme this season, Wilby gave their fans yet another huge win on Wednesday. They blew past Watertown 70-50. Given Wilby's advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Watertown is ranked 153rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Woodland Regional didn't have too much trouble with Derby at home on Tuesday as they won 65-46. The victory was just what Woodland Regional needed coming off of a 113-59 defeat in their prior game.

Woodland Regional can attribute much of their success to James Scampolino, who scored 17 points along with two steals, and Dean Accetura, who scored 27 points. Scampolino is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of John Napiello, who scored 13 points.

Wilby has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Woodland Regional, they pushed their record up to 7-10 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.

Everything came up roses for Wilby against Woodland Regional in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 108-63 win. Will Wilby repeat their success, or does Woodland Regional have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
