Baseball Recap: Pendleton County Comes Up Short

Pendleton County extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping them down to 3-6. They lost 10-1 to the Owen County Rebels. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their loss to the Rebels from their previous meeting back in May of 2023.

Pendleton County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kevin Miles, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Owen County, the win got them back to even at 4-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for they.

On Owen County's side, Connor Dezarn and Wade Cook made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Dezarn struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Meanwhile, Cook pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Dezarn a new career-high. At the plate, Dezarn went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Cook went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Owen County is 3-1 when Dezarn posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, Brody Hearn was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Owen County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-4 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Caleb Allnutt, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Pendleton County will square off against Lloyd Memorial at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Juggernauts have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Owen County, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Henry County at 6:00 p.m. on the 14th.
