Baseball Game Preview: Hanna Golden Eagles vs. Harlingen Cardinals

Hanna hasn't had much luck against Harlingen recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Hanna will challenge Harlingen at 6:30 p.m. Hanna will be strutting in after a win while Harlingen will be coming in after a loss.

Hanna will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Veterans Memorial, who they had gone 1-7-1 against in their nine prior meetings. Hanna came out on top in a nail-biter against Veterans Memorial on Saturday, sneaking past 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Golden Eagles have posted since February 27th.

Sebastian Escamilla spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Gene Martinez and Aziel Medellin did most of the damage at the plate: Martinez went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, while Medellin scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits Martinez has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Ruiz, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Hanna was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Harlingen came up short against Veterans Memorial on Tuesday and fell 6-2.

Hanna's record now sits at 6-11. As for Harlingen, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.

Hanna couldn't quite get it done against Harlingen in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Can Hanna avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
