Football Recap: Jayden Chavez's Menacing Defense Leads Tempe over Carl Hayden Community

If Carl Hayden Community wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Tempe, they should've done a better job of containing Saul Mendez. The Buffaloes claimed a resounding 38-0 win over the Falcons for which the team can thank Mendez, who threw for 191 yards and five TDs while completing 74.1% of his passes. He is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last four games he's played dating back to last season.

Tempe didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Jayden Chavez, Jaiden Hart-Rodriguez, and Mark Reed picked up one apiece.

Tempe has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 57.0 points this season. As for Carl Hayden Community, their loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tempe will venture away from home to face off against Flagstaff at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Carl Hayden Community, they are packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will square off against Yuma at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
