Fans got a thrill when Andrew Tarantino and Julian Dunn connected against Pomperaug. The connection went for 67 yards, the longest such play in Southwest this season.
Brookfield was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from 13th to seventh in the league. The Bobcats defeated Bunnell 34-26 earlier in the week.
Michael McCourt threw for 180 yards and 3 touchdowns.
McCourt put up the best numbers through the air as New Fairfield topped Immaculate. McCourt's favorite target this week was Greg Radovic, who caught 2 passes for 84 yards.
Tarantino provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Newtown topped the Panthers. He completed 12 passes for 229 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 4 yards. Tarantino's key target this week was Dunn, who caught 4 passes for 123 yards.
Jack Shaban was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 189 yards on 17 carries as Joel Barlow bested Pomperaug. Teammate Steve Miller added to the ground attack by rushing for 88 yards.
Dunn was the best wideout in Southwest this week as Newtown beat Dave Roach's team. Troy Frangione helped Newtown's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 61 yards.
Steven George's team's Tarantino and Dunn have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-11 quarterback Tarantino has thrown for 229 yards this season, while Dunn has 4 catches for 123 yards. The Falcons' Shaban leads the league in rushing yards with 189.
The Rebels' offense has scored 42 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while Oxford has allowed only 6 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when New Fairfield takes on the Wolverines. As it stands, Anthony Fata's team is in fourth, while Oxford is in second.
New Milford lost to Masuk 71-34 last week, the largest margin of any game.
