Basketball Recap: St. Mary's Victorious

St. Mary posted their closest victory since February 15th on Thursday. They escaped with a win against the Coal Ridge Titans by the margin of a single free throw, 60-59. For the Pirates, this counts as revenge for the 68-54 win the Titans walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2024.

St. Mary's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kisean Dawson, who went 5-for-12 on his way to 18 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Starr, who posted 17 points and five rebounds.

St. Mary's was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Coal Ridge only racked up nine.

Coal Ridge lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Alex Cornejo, who shot 47% from the field en route to 17 points along with five assists and four blocks. Gio Parker was another key player, going 6-for-9 to rack up 15 points.

St. Mary's has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

St. Mary's didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 56-40 victory against DSST: Green Valley Ranch on the 5th. As for Coal Ridge, they have also already played their next contest, an 82-48 win against Rifle on the 5th.
