Baseball Recap: Central Hinds Academy Gets the Win

It was a proper cat-fight when Central Hinds Academy duked it out with Independence on Monday. The Cougars came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 5-1. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cougars also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2025.

Zack Moak spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for him.

On the hitting side, Jay Shuff was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Chase Smith also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

The victory got Central Hinds Academy back to even at 4-4. As for Independence, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-4.

Central Hinds Academy will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against St. Aloysius at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th. As for Independence, they have already played their next matchup, a 7-0 defeat against Pascagoula on the 10th.
