Softball Recap: Churubusco's Run of Six Straight Victories Now Over

Churubusco dropped their record down to 17-8 on Saturday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins. They lost 15-1 to the South Adams Starfires. The loss was just more heartbreak for the Eagles who fell 13-11 when the teams previously met back in May of 2023.

Churubusco saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shelby Tigner, who went 1-for-3 with one run. Jaylyn Shively also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

As for South Adams, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 20-5. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 games by six runs or more this season.

On South Adams' side, Shelby Weigel and Addie Baker were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Weigel tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Meanwhile, Baker tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Weigel has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Weigel went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run, while Baker went 2-for-4 with five RBI and two doubles. That's the most RBI Weigel has posted over her last 11 contests.

In other batting news, Bekah Patterson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three runs. Reagan Bollenbacher was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Churubusco didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 10-3 defeat against Fort Wayne Northrop on the 24th. As for South Adams, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 2-1 victory against Madison-Grant on the 24th.
