One of the winningest postseason pitchers of all time, Point Loma (San Diego) baseball coach David Wells knows a thing or two about winning crucial ballgames. That's good news for the Pointers, who are in the playoffs for the first time since 2011.

Wells spent 21 years in the major leagues, pitching for nine different teams. However, it is his four-year stint with the New York Yankees where he won the bulk of his postseason games. His 10 postseason wins rank No. 7 all-time in major league history. He is also one of just three Yankees to pitch a perfect game.

After trying to catch on as a coach at the major league level for the past nine seasons, Wells told Bleacher Report that he never received any offers. As a result, he is back coaching full time at his alma mater after spending three seasons as the team's pitching coach.

The Pointers are 15-11 on the season and ranked No. 6 in the San Diego Section Division II Power Rankings. Point Loma has not been in the playoffs since 2011, going through three head coaches and posting a 31-45 record during that three-year span.

Wells has Point Loma tied for second in the Western League at 7-4 with an outside chance at tying for the league title heading into the final game of the regular season.
