Chen is a perfect 3-0 against Carroll Christian since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Chargers will square off against Carroll Christian at 4:00 p.m. Chen has given up an average of 11.9 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Front Royal HomeSchool hit Chen with a seven-run fifth inning on April 5th, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Chargers came up short against the Flames, falling 11-2.

Chen saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Buba, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Buba has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Carroll Christian). They blew past Rosedale Christian Academy 24-3 on Tuesday. With that win, Carroll Christian brought their scoring average up to 8.2 runs per game.
Ethan Shaffer and Carter Comstock made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Shaffer struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Comstock struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game. At the plate, Shaffer got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI, while Comstock went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Jeremiah Bassler was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, three stolen bases, and five RBI. He also put up two doubles, which were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Andreas Nicolaides, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with five stolen bases and four runs.
Carroll Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .660. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Chen's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Carroll Christian, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
Chen skirted past Carroll Christian 2-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chargers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
