Preview: Splendora Wildcats vs. Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears
The Splendora Wildcats will be playing at home against the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Splendora has struggled recently with six defeats in a row, while Little Cypress-Mauriceville will arrive with three straight victories.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 51-22, which was the final score in Splendora's tilt against Hargrave on Friday.
Even though the team lost, they still came through with several impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Dominic Rodriguez, who rushed for 134 yards. Lubbers Robert also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Little Cypress-Mauriceville didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Livingston on Friday, but they still walked away with a 18-13 victory.
Splendora's loss was their eighth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-0 Hamshire-Fannett and 11-2 Lumberton (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 55.5% over those games). As for Little Cypress-Mauriceville, their win on Friday bumped their record up to 5-3.
Splendora took a serious blow against Little Cypress-Mauriceville in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, falling 55-9. Will Splendora have more luck at home instead of on the road?
