Football Recap: Wawasee Comes Up Short

Wawasee had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-1 to make it seven. The game between the Warriors and the West Noble Chargers didn't end well, with the Warriors falling 35-19. The Warriors were down 35-13 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite the defeat, Wawasee saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Mark Haynes rushed for 117 yards and a pair of scores, and also threw for 154 yards and one touchdown on only nine passes. 85 of Haynes' passing yards were hauled in by Kaden Andrew, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

As for West Noble, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. 35 seems to be a good number for them as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.

West Noble's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Trey Shisler led the charge by rushing for 67 yards and a pair of TDs, while also throwing for 213 yards and two touchdowns on only 17 passes. Those 67 rushing yards gave Shisler a new career-high. Another rusher making a difference was Brogan Parks, who rushed for 85 yards and one score on only 11 carries.

Looking ahead, Wawasee will look to defend their home field on Friday against NorthWood at 7:00 p.m. This will be the Warriors' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for West Noble, they will head out on the road to take on Eastside at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
