Basketball Recap: Phillips Falls to Lane Tech in First Game of Season

Phillips had to start their season on the road on Monday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell 61-57 to the Lane Tech Champions. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 71-52 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2024.

Lane Tech found their leader in sophomore Cole Christian, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Matthew Szafoni, who posted 13 points and seven boards.

Phillips has already played their next matchup, a 63-50 defeat against DePaul College Prep on the 25th. As for Lane Tech, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 64-54 loss against Niles North on the 25th.
