Baseball Recap: Westminster Christian Gets the Win

Westminster Christian won the last time they faced John Carroll Catholic and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Westminster Christian Warriors came out on top in a nail-biter against the John Carroll Catholic Rams, sneaking past 4-3.

Austin Wiegandt made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

Wiegandt wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Argudin, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance gave Argudin a new career-high in hits.

Westminster Christian is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. John Carroll Catholic has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-5 record this season.

Westminster Christian will face off against Liberty at 3:00 p.m. on March 26th. As for John Carroll Catholic, they will be taking part in a tournament against Berkeley Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Berkeley Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
