Softball Game Preview: Sudan Hornets vs. Abernathy Antelopes

For the second straight game, Sudan will face off against Abernathy. The Hornets will head out on the road to square off against the Antelopes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sudan has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight defeats, while Abernathy will come in with six straight wins.

Last Tuesday, Sudan came up short against Abernathy and fell 12-9.

For Abernathy's part, Lily Adames was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Adames has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rylie Rexrode, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Kendal Miller was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Abernathy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in ten consecutive contests.

Abernathy pushed their record up to 12-6 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.3 runs over those games. As for Sudan, their loss dropped their record down to 11-10-1.

Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sudan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .380. However, it's not like Abernathy struggles in that department as they've averaged .441. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
