Basketball Game Preview: North Gaston Wildcats vs. Crest Chargers

North Gaston hasn't had much luck against Crest recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The North Gaston Wildcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Crest Chargers at 6:00 p.m. North Gaston will be strutting in after a victory while Crest will be coming in after a loss.

Last Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, North Gaston beat Highland Tech 40-34. The win was all the more spectacular given the Wildcats' disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 342nd, while the Rams are ranked 150th).

Sai White was a one-woman wrecking crew for North Gaston as she went 11 for 23 on her way to 24 points in addition to five rebounds and three blocks. White has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Ranya Watkins was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Meanwhile, Crest had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They were outmatched by A.C. Reynolds and fell 66-31.

The victory made it two in a row for North Gaston and bumps their season record up to 2-5. As for Crest, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.

North Gaston was dealt a bruising 65-21 loss at the hands of Crest when the teams last played back in February. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Crest's Monica Surratt, who posted 21 points. Now that North Gaston knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time?
