Baseball Recap: Le Roy Victorious

Le Roy proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 16) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Haverling Rams, sneaking past 3-1. This was a revenge game for the Oatkan Knights: when they faced off against the Rams two weeks ago, they had to take a 3-2 defeat.

Alex Spezzano spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jake Higgins was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April.

Le Roy pushed their record up to 17-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Haverling, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.

Looking ahead, Le Roy will square off against Wayland-Cohocton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Oatkan Knights 3.3, the Eagles 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. Haverling does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
