Basketball Recap: Welsh Comes Up Short

Welsh lost against Acadiana back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Welsh Greyhounds took a 43-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Acadiana Rams.

Acadiana found their leader in sophomore Jayniah Gauthier, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 15 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gauthier has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Essence Green, who posted four points in addition to 13 boards and six blocks.

Welsh has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-18 record this season. As for Acadiana, the win snapped their losing streak at seven games and leaves them with a 5-20 record.

Welsh and Acadiana could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Louisiana Rankings. Welsh (ranked 267th) will meet Lafayette Christian Academy (ranked eighth) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Acadiana will face off against Barbe at 5:30 p.m. on Friday down 247 places (261 vs. 14).
