Football Recap: Union Cougars vs. Canyon View Falcons
Union was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 40-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Canyon View Falcons. Despite 116 more yards than the Falcons, the Cougars couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Despite the defeat, Union saw an underclassman step up: Dylan Murphy-Watahomigie rushed for 105 yards and four touchdowns on only ten carries, and also threw for 247 yards and a touchdown while completing 72.7% of his passes. Union also got a significant boost from Kylar Hackford, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 97 yards.
Even though they lost, Union was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 241 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in August of 2023.
Union's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Cruz Labrum.
Canyon View got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ryder Miller out in front who rushed for 105 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries, and also threw for 100 yards and a touchdown. Another receiver making a difference was Trenton Ludlow, who picked up 86 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Union's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Canyon View, their win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Union's road trip will continue as they head out to face Ogden at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ogden will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Union surely won't give up without a fight. As for Canyon View, they will square off against North Sanpete at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
