Softball Game Preview: Clarendon Broncos vs. Riesel Indians

The Clarendon Broncos will challenge the Riesel Indians on Saturday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Clarendon is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They skirted past Floydada 4-2.

Meanwhile, Riesel had already won 18 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.1 runs) and they went ahead and made it 19 on Thursday. They came out on top against the Bearcats by a score of 8-3.

Kyleigh Benton (UAM) made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Sveva Mariotti was incredible, firing off two home runs and one stolen base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Lauren Summers (UAM), who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Riesel was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Moody only posted a batting average of .231.

Riesel pushed their record up to 26-4-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Clarendon, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 27-6-1 record this season.
