Basketball Recap: Lake Norman Charter Takes a Loss

Lake Norman Charter was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 74-69 heartbreaker at the hands of the West Rowan Falcons. The Knights were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Falcons earlier this season, when they won 63-58.

Defeat or not, Lake Norman Charter got some senior leadership from Braden Wilkie and Dean Ruthstrom. Wilkie went 6 of 14 en route to 19 points and eight rebounds, while Ruthstrom went 5 for 8 on his way to 14 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Ruthstrom a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Jay Morgan, who posted seven points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Lake Norman Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Lake Norman Charter's loss dropped their record down to 6-12. As for West Rowan, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-13.

Lake Norman Charter didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 70-42 win against East Rowan on the 7th. As for West Rowan, they have also already played their next contest, a 73-55 defeat against Central Cabarrus on the 7th.
