Volleyball Recap: Sports & Medical Sciences Academy Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Sports & Medical Sciences Academy had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They lost 3-0 to the Ellington Knights on Thursday. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.

Sports & Medical Sciences Academy was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. The match finished with set scores of 25-11, 25-23, 25-9.

Aidelyne Varela paced Sports & Medical Sciences Academy's offense, picking up six kills. Varela got some help from Joanelis Negron-Arroyo and her five assists. Analiah Rivera controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Ellington's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.

Sports & Medical Sciences Academy has already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against Coventry on the 8th. Ellington has also already played their next matchup (against Canton), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
