Baseball Game Preview: Lovington Wildcats vs. Goddard Rockets

For the second straight game, Lovington will face off against Goddard. The Wildcats will venture away from home to take on the Rockets at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Lovington has given up an average of 7.2 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Lovington lost 19-2 to Goddard on Thursday. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

For Goddard's part, Cameron Brown made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Brown also tossed a walk, which is notable because Goddard is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-9 otherwise. Brown was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Brady Duer was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with four RBI and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Goddard's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-10 when he doesn't). Jaden Fuentes was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Goddard lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Goddard's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-10. As for Lovington, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-8.
