Softball Recap: Chatham Gets the Win

While Chatham's victory against Altavista wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cavaliers won by a run and slipped past the Colonels 6-5. The Cavaliers haven't had any issues with the Colonels recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Maci Short spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jasmine Smoot, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Kayleigh Harmon was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Chatham's victory bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Altavista, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.
